Recruitment agencies often receive a bad reputation, for no other reason other than people not fully understanding what it is that a recruitment agency does and therefor underestimating them. There are many people that aren’t aware of the value a recruitment agency can have on a person’s job search or a company’s search for candidates. We have created a short list of the most common misconceptions associated with recruitment agencies, to set the record straight.
“Companies can recruit people internally, Recruitment agencies are unnecessary”
Finding the perfect individual to fill a position in an organisation can be a lengthy and complex procedure considering each stage of the hiring process. Even the most established companies with strong HR departments can find the whole process tricky. It’s for this reason that many businesses reach out and connect with recruitment agencies. Generally, recruitment agencies have a large roster of candidates on file and have their own recruitment consultants that hold their own expertise in their virtual markets dedicated to finding the ideal candidate that will become an integral part of the team and in time become an asset to the company. Recruitment Agencies are an important tool used by companies that are struggling to fill particular roles or simply do not have the time to delegate to finding that perfect fit.
“Recruitment Agencies are too expensive”
This is probably one of the most popular misconceptions that we have heard in relation to recruitment agencies. Many individuals are under the impression that you must subscribe/register with a recruitment agency and pay a fee in order for them to find you a position of employment. This is a complete myth and completely false. Recruitment Agencies will never charge or profit from their candidates. The way that recruitment agencies make their money is by receiving a fee from their client for placing the relevant and qualified candidates in a job. This ties in with the first point that we made, the recruitment process can be quite time consuming and we take care of this task so that our clients can focus on other projects. This is what we get paid for. You (the candidate) do not pay the recruiter; the recruiter is paid by the agency they work for and the company who hires the job-seeker.
“Recruiters do not have industry knowledge”
Again, another myth. Many people are under the illusion that recruiters do not understand the industry in which they are recruiting for. Reputable recruitment consultants specialise in the areas they recruit for and have a broad knowledge of their market. Often a recruiter has a background in the area that they recruit for or he/she is trained in that area so they understand what is required to work in that field. Here at Red Chair Recruitment our recruiters have gained their own experience from their past and employment history. Our recruiters work in their own virtual markets and they know exactly what is required of candidates for positions in these particular markets.
“Recruitment Agencies don’t care about Job-seekers”
People have formed their opinions and some have come to the conclusion that recruitment consultants is that they don’t care about their candidates and are only concerned with placing candidates in positions so they can make their commission. Okay so, we can’t speak on behalf of other agencies but one of the things that we pride ourselves on at Red Chair Recruitment is the ability to form relationships with both candidates and clients. One thing that we do not do, is just place candidates in positions for the sake of a quick commission fee, why? This type of behavior tarnished the reputation of the agency, we want to make sure that we know our candidates thoroughly the ensure that we can stand by them when we put them forward for a position. If we didn’t take the time to get to know our candidates and sent somebody without the required skills or qualification for a position then it reflects poorly on our agency and we risk losing business with some of our clients. So you can understand why this point is completely false when it comes to Red Chair Recruitment and why it would not benefit us in the slightest if we didn’t take the time to build a relationship and a rapport with both our candidates and our clients.
